'The shoulder is a complex joint that offers great mobility but has to provide optimal stability'

Why shoulder physical therapy

The shoulder is a very complex joint. A fully mobile shoulder is what is needed in daily life but with mobility there comes a stability issue. Fortunately many people can maintain a balance and do not get shoulder complaints. For those who get shoulder problems it’s often a painful and long lasting complaint. Surgery is often a last resort in trying to relieve pain and restore normal function.

Everywhere in the world physical therapists unite themselves in shoulder groups and work with orthopedic surgeons to optimize the pre- and post-operative care. With an early and right diagnosis severe disability and surgery can be avoided.

Who are more at risk

Overhead athletes are especially at risk in developing shoulder complaints. A correct technique is warranted but it must come with the right muscle balance.

“In Holland I have been working with other shoulder physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons in my region to protocolize the treatment of shoulder complaints. It is often a great success with the gratitude of the patient when an operation is avoided”.

Brown Manual Therapy offers the experience  and know-how of treating different shoulder complaints for regular people as for athletes (baseball, beach tennis, gymnastics).
